TikTok Creator Network vs agency: what is the difference?

A TikTok Creator Network is the name TikTok's English pages use for what its Arabic and Turkish pages call an agency (وكالة, ajans): a business that TikTok approves to recruit, train and support LIVE creators and that works with TikTok through LIVE Backstage. On the TikTok pages we checked it is not a different kind of business, only a different word, and TikTok's own white paper writes the two together as "Creator Networks(Agencies)".

This is a question of wording, so the page sticks to what TikTok has published and says where we found nothing. It was checked against TikTok's pages in all three languages on the date given under "TikTok sources".

What TikTok calls it, language by language

TikTok publishes one Creator Networks page in English, Arabic and Turkish. The three pages describe the same program, but the word for the business changes with the language.

TikTok pageWord for the businessWord for the platformHow its FAQ asks about the benefits
English Creator Network LIVE Backstage "What are the benefits of becoming a TikTok Creator Network?"
Arabic وكالة (agency) منصة وكالات LIVE (the LIVE agencies platform) "ما المزايا المترتبة على أن تصبح الشركة وكالة TikTok؟"
Turkish Ajans (agency) CANLI Yayın Sahne Arkası (LIVE Backstage) "TikTok Ajansı olmanın avantajları nelerdir?"

The English page does not use the word agency in its readable text. The Arabic and Turkish pages do not use Creator Network. Each page names the platform in its own language.

Is it the same thing?

On everything we could read, yes. Three things point the same way.

  • One program in three languages. The English, Arabic and Turkish pages describe the same three sign-up steps (create an account, submit an application, pass review), the same LIVE Backstage platform and the same five FAQ topics. Only the word for the business changes.
  • The white paper uses both words together. TikTok's white paper for these businesses writes "Creator Networks(Agencies)" and treats them as one kind of organization. On its Arabic and Turkish editions the body text stays in English and keeps that phrase, while the titles and navigation say "وكالات TikTok LIVE" and "TikTok CANLI Yayın Ajansları".
  • No TikTok statement that they differ. We found no TikTok statement that one name replaced the other, and none that the two names mean different things. So this site treats them as one thing and says so.

That is a reading of what TikTok has published, not a statement from TikTok, and TikTok can change its wording.

What a Creator Network (agency) does, according to TikTok

TikTok's pages describe the business by what it does rather than with a formal definition. These are the points all three languages share.

  • Finds creators. LIVE Backstage offers instant messaging, lists of potential creators and referral programs for inviting creators to the network.
  • Supports and trains them. The FAQ lists dedicated operational support, official training and performance analytics as benefits.
  • Runs the business in LIVE Backstage. TikTok calls LIVE Backstage the official operation platform. There the business can manage creators, track performance, analyze viewer engagement, manage contracts and review bonuses and payouts.
  • Can join incentive programs. TikTok's English FAQ mentions incentive programs with monthly bonuses.
  • Is approved by TikTok. You create a LIVE Backstage account, submit your registration documents, shareholding information and details of key management and personnel, then pass TikTok's review. Access to LIVE Backstage follows approval.

The white paper also sorts these businesses by focus: acquiring creators, cultivating them, developing content and localizing for a market. It says its observations are for reference and are not guidelines or requirements.

When "agency" means something else

Outside TikTok LIVE, the word agency is also used for businesses that do other work, such as marketing or managing talent for brands. This page and this site use agency only for the TikTok LIVE kind: a business that recruits LIVE creators and works with TikTok through LIVE Backstage. That is the site's own point, not a TikTok statement.

The name alone does not show that TikTok has approved a business. On TikTok's pages, approval comes through the LIVE Backstage application and review.

Which name to use

  • In Arabic or Turkish, use TikTok's own word, وكالة or ajans, because that is what TikTok's pages in those languages use.
  • In English, both are fine. TikTok's English pages say Creator Network and its white paper writes both. Pick one, use it throughout a document, and give the other in brackets the first time.
  • In your own materials, say once that the two names mean the same thing on TikTok's pages, so a creator who has met only one of them is not confused.

How CN Creator App shows it

CN Creator App is a management app for the owner, agents and creators of a TikTok LIVE agency. This is how the two names appear in it.

  • The word agency. The app says agency in English ("Your agency"), وكالة in Arabic and ajans in Turkish, the same words TikTok uses on its Arabic and Turkish pages.
  • The name. CN Creator App. CN stands for Creator Networks.
  • Your own LIVE Backstage account. The app reads each creator's monthly figures (diamonds, valid days and LIVE hours) from the agency's own LIVE Backstage account. It does not replace LIVE Backstage and it is not a TikTok product.
  • Joining TikTok's program. That happens on TikTok's side, through LIVE Backstage. The app does not decide whether a business counts as a Creator Network or an agency; TikTok does, in its review.

Questions agency owners ask

What is a TikTok Creator Network?

A TikTok Creator Network is a business that TikTok approves to recruit, train and support LIVE creators and that works with TikTok through LIVE Backstage. It is the name TikTok's English pages use. Its Arabic and Turkish pages call the same kind of business an agency (وكالة, ajans).

Is a Creator Network the same as a TikTok LIVE agency?

On the TikTok pages we checked, yes. The English, Arabic and Turkish Creator Networks pages describe the same sign-up and the same LIVE Backstage platform, and TikTok's white paper writes "Creator Networks(Agencies)". We found no TikTok statement that the two differ.

Why does TikTok say Creator Network in English and agency in Arabic and Turkish?

The pages we read do not explain it. They use different words by language, and the white paper writes both together. We found no announcement that one name replaced the other, so this site does not say that a rename happened.

How do you become a Creator Network or agency?

You apply to TikTok. According to TikTok's Creator Networks page, you create a LIVE Backstage account, submit your incorporation or registration certificate, shareholding information and key management and personnel details, and pass TikTok's review. The step-by-step guide on this site goes through it.

Is a Creator Network different from a talent or influencer management agency?

The words overlap, but they can name different businesses. TikTok describes a Creator Network as a business partner of TikTok LIVE that recruits, trains and supports LIVE creators through LIVE Backstage. A talent or marketing agency may do other work and need not have any relationship with TikTok LIVE, so the word alone does not tell you which one is meant.

What can a Creator Network do in LIVE Backstage?

According to TikTok, it can manage creators, track performance, analyze viewer engagement, manage contracts and review bonuses and payouts. It can also scout creators with instant messaging, lists of potential creators and referral programs.

Which name should I use in Arabic and Turkish?

Use the word TikTok uses in that language: وكالة in Arabic and ajans in Turkish. TikTok's Arabic and Turkish Creator Networks pages do not use the English name.

Is CN Creator App a Creator Network?

CN Creator App is a management app for agencies, not a TikTok Creator Network. It is made by an official TikTok LIVE agency partner, is not a TikTok product and reads the agency's own LIVE Backstage account. The agency owner, not the app, is the one who applies to TikTok.
